How often should my dog be professionally groomed?

For many dogs that require regular professional grooming, we recommend approximately every six to eight weeks.

The right schedule depends on breed, coat type, length, lifestyle and how much coat maintenance you're able to do at home. Leaving appointments significantly longer can increase the risk of matting.

Will you have to cut my dog's coat very short?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. We'll always discuss the style you'd like and assess the condition of your dog's coat first. If the coat is healthy and manageable, we'll work towards your preferred finish where practical. If the coat is severely matted, however, we have to put your dog's comfort and welfare ahead of keeping the coat long.

What happens if my dog is matted?

We'll assess the coat and explain your options. Trying to brush severe matting out can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful for a dog, so clipping the coat shorter may be the kinder option. Regular grooming appointments and correct brushing and combing at home are the best ways to prevent the same problem happening again.

When should my puppy first visit a groomer?

For breeds that will require regular grooming, we recommend introducing professional grooming once your puppy has completed the vaccinations necessary for them to safely attend. Don't wait until six months simply because you've heard puppies don't need grooming before then. Early puppy sessions are about creating positive associations with bathing, drying, brushing, handling, nail care and the grooming environment.

Do you groom nervous dogs?

Yes, and we take a calm, patient approach. We carefully manage the salon environment and can adapt how we work depending on your dog's needs. Having several groomers also means additional support is available where appropriate. Please tell us about your dog's previous grooming experiences when booking.

Question 6

My dog has been refused by another groomer. Will you groom them?

Accepted Answer

Potentially. We don't automatically refuse a dog simply because another groomer has been unable to complete their groom. We'd first want an honest conversation about what happened and the behaviour involved. We can then decide whether we're able to safely accommodate your dog.

Question 7

Do you groom dogs that may bite?

Accepted Answer

Dogs with a known bite risk are considered individually. An appropriate muzzle may be required, and in some circumstances we'll ask the owner to remain nearby in the background. We will not continue if we believe grooming has become unsafe for the dog or our team. Please disclose any known biting or aggressive behaviour when booking.

Do you groom large dogs?

Yes. Having a team allows us to accommodate many larger dogs as well as smaller breeds. Let us know your dog's breed and approximate size when enquiring so we can allocate the appropriate appointment time.

Do you use cages?

We don't routinely use cages. If dogs overlap between appointments, we have a separate photo area where they can wait. Our appointment planning is designed to help keep the salon calm.

Question 10

How do you help elderly dogs?

Accepted Answer

We adapt grooming around what an older dog can comfortably manage. Yoga mats allow dogs to lie down when they need to, and grooming cradles can provide additional support for tasks including pad and nail work. We aren't interested in making an elderly dog stand unnecessarily just to make grooming quicker.

How long will my dog's groom take?

It depends on breed, coat, size, condition and temperament. A Cockapoo groom may take around 90 minutes, while a Labradoodle could take approximately two hours. Hand stripping can take around two to two-and-a-half hours. We'll give you a better indication based on your individual dog.

Do you offer nail trimming without a full groom?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Nail trimming is included where appropriate with grooming appointments, and standalone nail appointments are also available.

Question 13

Do you offer dog teeth cleaning?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We offer ultrasonic teeth cleaning for suitable dogs. The first appointment costs £35 and follow-up appointments are £25. If we notice signs of possible gum disease or another dental concern, we'll stop and recommend seeking veterinary advice.

What should I do between grooming appointments?

Accepted Answer

Brush and comb your dog regularly using equipment suitable for their coat. Pay particular attention to areas that commonly knot, such as behind the ears, under the legs and around harness or collar areas. We're happy to explain which brushes and combs may be appropriate for your dog's coat.
